North Coventry Elementary Band Program

The North Coventry Elementary Band Program offers fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students the opportunity to learn and perform on a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument while developing musical skills, confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for music. The program is led by Miss Jennings and Mr. Puleo, who are committed to providing students with an engaging and supportive environment as they grow as musicians.

Students may choose from a variety of instruments, including oboe, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn/tuba, and percussion (drums and xylophones). Throughout the school year, students receive one half-hour small group lesson during each cycle to develop proper technique, music reading skills, and performance abilities.

Students must rent or purchase an instrument before beginning lessons. Band members are also expected to participate in before-school and after-school rehearsals as needed to prepare for concerts and performances.

North Coventry students have the opportunity to participate in three different band ensembles:

Junior Band
Designed for beginning band students, Junior Band introduces students to the fundamentals of playing an instrument and performing as part of an ensemble. Students participate in a spring concert featuring beginning band students from all Owen J. Roberts elementary schools.

Senior Band
Open to second- and third-year band students, Senior Band allows students to continue developing their musical skills through more advanced instruction and ensemble performance. Students perform in two concerts throughout the school year: a winter concert and a spring concert with band students from all Owen J. Roberts elementary schools.

Advanced Band
Advanced Band is an audition-based sixth grade ensemble that meets after school during the second half of the school year. Students in this group further challenge their musical abilities and perform alongside Senior Band students during the spring band concert.
